Cod is common in the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean. During the first months of the year the cod migrates from the Barents Sea to the south to spawn off the north west coast of Norway. During the summer the fish returns to the feeding grounds of the Barents Sea. Norwegian-Arctic cod is the first Atlantic cod that has been certified for being a sustainable well-managed fishery. Cod has a white belly, an olive green and reddish-brown spotted back. The fish is 80-90cm long. Cod is a lean fish with a subtle taste and a flaky structure.
Sustainable catch
Guaranteed by MSC
Cod is mainly caught in mixed bottom fishery, together with haddock and pollack, but also in more selective fishery with lines and gill nets, which gives less by-catch and bottom damage. Queens cod carries the MSC eco label, which guarantees sustainable fishery. For more information about the catching methods, see our website: www.freshfrozenfish.nl.
