Fish from the North Sea

The North Sea has always been a sea that has been fished a lot. Fortunately this still can be done. Of course it’s important that this is done in a sustainable way. Consequently with the correct catching methods and with respect for the natural environment. Fish from the North Sea is processed and frozen immediately after catching, so that when you defrost the fish at home it taste like fresh caught fish. Plaice ready-to-cook

North Sea plaice is a flatfish which, like flounder and dab, belongs to the family of plaice. Plaice is one of the most important fish species for the Dutch fishery. Plaice is easily recognized by distinctive orange spots. Plaice is easy to prepare and versatile in the kitchen. Juvenile plaice swim upright. After birth they undergoametamorphosis. After approximately six weeks they “turn over” to flat fish. In January, February and March plaice is spawning and must be left alone.

North Sea dab

North Sea dab is a sand coloured flatfish that belongs to the plaice family like flounder and plaice. It has dark spots all over its body. The maximum size of the fish is 42 centimetre. When it’s still a juvenile, the eyes of the fish turn to de right side. The dab feeds itself with worms and crustaceans, but also with mollusc, fish and echinoderm. Dab is common in the Wadden and North Sea. Dab is a low-fat and tasty fish, which is very suitable for frying or steaming.
