Plaice ready-to-cook

North Sea plaice is a flatfish which, like flounder and dab, belongs to the family of plaice. Plaice is one of the most important fish species for the Dutch fishery. Plaice is easily recognized by distinctive orange spots. Plaice is easy to prepare and versatile in the kitchen. Juvenile plaice swim upright. After birth they undergoametamorphosis. After approximately six weeks they “turn over” to flat fish. In January, February and March plaice is spawning and must be left alone.

Preparation:

Fast and simple!
Defrost the plaice in the refrigerator.
Rinse under cold running water and dap dry. Season the plaice and if desired sprinkle with lemon juice. Plaice can also be breaded.

 

Frying pan
Fry in a little oil or butter for approx. 6-8 minutes. Turn regularly.

 

Oven:
Wrap the plaice in aluminium foil and place in a preheated oven (180-200°) for 20 minutes.

 

Grill:
On a preheated grill approx. 5-7 minutes. Turn regularly.
