Aqua culture

Besides wild catch from various fisheries, an ever increasing part of the supplied fish come from fish farms (aqua culture). Today this concerns approx. 50% of all fish eaten in the world. With a standardized breeding method, it’s possible to produce constant high quality fish in a sustainable way.  Fish farmers keep detailed record of the fish from birth to catching and processing.

Where sustainable wild catch fishery can make use of the MSC as standard, aqua culture can make use of a number of standards. On the initiative of the WWF and a number of other organisations, the aim is to achieve to a worldwide standard in the form of ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council)
